Music & Movement

Playing with drums

We are a thriving village group that meets weekly in Kington St Michael Village Hall, during term-time, on Tuesday mornings, for pre-school Music and Movement.

Catering for young musicians from 18 months up to pre-schoolers at 4, the aim is for semi-structured musical fun for children and their parents/carers.  With the focus on engaging the children, we spend each half term learning new action songs and rhymes as well as playing a variety of child-friendly instruments.  We also always have plenty of time for singing and dancing to children’s favourite songs.  We are delighted to now have the use of Acorns Pre-school's outside toys to play with, which they are kindly lending to us each week; a great example of village organisations working together.  The children all really enjoy this social part of the session.

KSM Music and Movement operates in the Village Hall on Tuesday mornings, with music from 10am to 10.30am, followed by refreshments and outside play until 11am.  If anyone is interested in joining the group please contact our Membership Secretary, Michelle Maxwell on (01249) 750108.
Fees are £3 per session for each child, and £1.50 for any additional children, paid for termly.  We are organised through an informal committee structure; with a Chair, Katy Carr (tel. 01249 750344) and Treasurer, Sarah Tobin (tel. 01249 758315), in addition to Michelle's role as Membership Secretary.

If you would like to see what we do, then do come along to the Village Hall one Tuesday morning.  We look forward to seeing you.

April: Music and Movement has had another good year, currently with 17 members contributing to an active and lively session.  Before Christmas we condensed the two classes into one as we had less members, however the group is expanding so we may have to revise this shortly.
We do not make any profit and have used money left over to buy new instruments, such as tambourines, and will organise a summer party for the children who leaving to go to school.  The group is well attended by children from the village with 10 members locally proving an invaluable community run class.

December: We were successfull in our application for a £168 grant from the Gazette & Herald Community Fund.  The money will be used to replace the ageing CD player and to buy some new play equipment.

July: The children at music and movement had an extra treat on 1st July, when they were able to watch sheep and lambs being moved from a nearby field, past the village hall and up to the farm.  The flock was making quite a tune of its own!
