Bramham Community Fund

The Bramham Community Fund exists to disperse the money raised from the sale of Residents' tickets for the Leeds Festival.  The Fund, which is chaired by Nick Lane Fox meets annually, usually in December or January.  Applications, which must be for Community Projects which benefit the residents of the parish should be made to the secretary before 1 December each year.

Further support for new pavilion

The Bramham Sports & Leisure Association made a further application to the Fund for a substantial contribution to match those funds being sought from third party donors.  The Fund was also pleased to make a small grant to the "Little Tykes" Parent & Toddler Group for craft materials and toys.

Bramham Guides to get French support

The Community Fund has decided to make a grant to Bramham Guides to support a camp in France in Summer 2009.  This includes additional uniforms which are required to be worn to meet insurance requirements and additional camping equipment which will be used on an ongoing basis.  This grant brings the total made by the Fund to over £96,000.

Community Fund to support new pavilion

Following on from the decision made last year to concentrate on a major project, this year a substantial grant is being made to the Sports & Leisure Group to support their project of building a new pavilion on the playing field.  It is hoped that this will cover about a third of the capital costs, with other funding coming from third parties and the Parish Council.  The Fund will also be making a grant to All Saints' Church to install an automatic winding mechanism for the church clock.

New Grants made by Bramham Community Fund

The Community Fund has allocated grants from the 2006 Leeds Festival.  Again, the main beneficiary is the Village Hall, and other grants have been made to Old People, Bramham FC, the Youth Club, the Drama Group and Bramham School.  The Fund has decided not to allocate grants this time with all of the money available.  Instead it will be looking, with contributions held back from other years, to build a significant reserve which will allocated to a major project that will significantly affect the village.  The Fund will be contacting the Working Groups from the Parish Plan to invite them to suggest possible future projects.

Community Fund to support Village Hall and others

The Bramham Community Fund has agreed the grants to be made from the funds raised from the sale of residents’ tickets for the 2005 Leeds Festival.  It recognised that the Village Hall is a vital facility in the village which recently has been facing some substantial refurbishment costs.  The Fund has decided that it should be the recipient of the largest grant, which is £7000.  Other successful applicants were Bramham Primary School, who are being supported with the provision of new playground equipment; the Parish Plan Environment Group with a contribution to their Spring planting programme; the Youth Club for replacement and new equipment; Bramham Drama Group for carpet tiles for the Village Hall stage and the Parish Plan Community Action Group for a children’s Christmas party.  The Fund also plans to support Bramham Football Club.

Village Hall and Primary School to benefit from Leeds Festival

The Bramham Community Fund which was set up to distribute the proceeds of the sale of residents’ tickets and guest tickets at the Carling Leeds Festival for the benefit of the local community has made two further grants.

The Fund Committee again meeting under the chairmanship of Nick Lane Fox decided to grant £4000 to Bramham Village Hall and £1000 to Bramham Primary School.   He said “The Village Hall Management Committee has identified a programme of work for the hall’s refurbishment, which will require substantial expenditure in the foreseeable future.  Fund raising activities are well under way, and the Community Fund is pleased to assist with this contribution, which is the largest of the grants made this year.”

The grant for the school is to help them to take full advantage of Interactive Whiteboards and new software needed to increase their small computer suite and to move their existing library to another location.

Bramham Community Fund distributed over £15,000 to local organisations as a result of the 2003 festival, and together with the grants announced in November, has now distributed £8,500 from the 2004 event.  A further £10,000 of grants will be made following the completion of the Bramham Parish Plan which will prioritise the needs of the village.  Community Fund Committee member and Chairman of the Parish Council, David Evans, said “This is great news for the village.  Over the two years, local community organisations will have benefited to from a total of £33,500.  We are grateful to the festival’s promoter, Mean Fiddler for their generosity.”

Bramham Community Fund makes more grants

Local community groups are to benefit from more grants made by the Bramham Community Fund.  This was set up from the proceeds of the sale of residents’ tickets and guest tickets at the Carling Leeds Festival in 2003, and continued with the event held in Bramham Park over the August Bank Holiday weekend this year.

The Fund Committee met last week to review the applications from local community organisations.  Nick Lane Fox, who chaired the meeting, said that in deciding this year’s allocations, the committee had spent some time reviewing the grants made in 2003, looking at which had benefited the different sections of the local community.  “We were particularly interested to make sure that the money was spent on projects that will provide ongoing facilities for the village in years to come, rather than merely funding the shortfall on current activities.  We were also keen to assist those organisations who were looking for financial contributions to their own fund raising efforts.”

Throughout the discussions, the committee was mindful of the ongoing activities of the Bramham Parish Plan, and decided to defer the allocation of about half of the money until further details were available on what the parish wanted.  Fund Committee member and Chairman of Bramham Parish Council, David Evans, said “The Parish Plan process is currently seeking the views of every resident as to the future direction for the village.  Inevitably, many of the suggestions received will result in additional expenditure and whilst the Parish Council will certainly take the recommendations on board, it makes sense for the Community Fund to hold back some of the money for projects benefiting good causes identified by the Plan”.

Among the first recipients of grants this year is the Bramham Drama Group, who will be receiving a contribution to the installation of additional sound facilities in the Village Hall, which will mean that equipment does not have to be hired and will of course benefit other users of the hall.

All Saints’ Church will be receiving a grant for their churchyard conservation project, which involves preserving part of the area as a hay meadow with wild flowers, and regular mowing of the other part.

The Bramham Guides, Brownies and Rangers are being equipped with matching polo shirts embroidered with “Bramham” which will be used initially on their visit to France in January.

The Bramham Youth Club has again been given funds towards the purchase of sports and games equipment, following the basketball equipment provided in 2003.

After receiving last year’s grant, the Bramham branch of the Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Association has gone from strength to strength, and the committee is pleased to make a further donation this year.

Applications were received from other organisations, which the committee is keen to support, but felt that clarification was required as to how the money would be spent.  Funds have been set aside for these groups, and the committee expects to announce a further number of grants in due course.

Nick Lane Fox said that the committee was grateful to the Festival promoter, Mean Fiddler, for their generosity in contributing to the fund.  He said “Not only have we mounted a second successful festival, but we have been able to share that success with the community in the provision of discounted tickets for residents and financial assistance for local organisations”.
