……….. Kippax is not perfect. Far too many similar businesses; take-aways and hairdressers for a start. Too many empty buildings, and definitely not enough for children to do. I find it sad seeing groups of kids hanging around the library late at night. Such a shame. Something needs to be done for these youngsters. The leisure centre could do its bit. Apart from improving the state of it’s changing rooms which are a sorry disgrace, how about installing a gym? I am sure that would be popular with young and old. The tennis court started off looking good and was a huge hit with kids; now it’s down to one net. The fencing surrounding it has been vandalised, and there’s glass on the ground. Shame CCTV cameras or some other type of security could not be installed to protect this site.
I’ll stop moaning now and concentrate on the positives. Being a keen amateur photographer – are there any photography clubs in Kippax? – I love the countryside around here. The walks around here are incredible and I would recommend them to anyone. Then there are the people. A majority of them are so friendly and stop to talk with me often even if they are meeting me for the first time. The ladies who work in Torvill’s ironmongers shop are wonderful. So patient and always helpful; and I cannot believe how cheap they sell things at. Bargains every time. Staff at the charity shop, the tattooists, and Alldays are so pleasant and I enjoy going to these places whenever the need arises. Kippax like many other villages has a lot that is wrong, but it has more than enough of what is right about a village. I like it here. And I’ve got no plans to leave for a long time yet.

Editor replies – apparently it’s normal for one of the nets at the tennis court to be taken down over the winter, it should be back there around Easter. The glass has been cleaned up too.
