Bridport Choral Society
The Bridport Choral Society was established around 1900 and at that time, boasted both a Choir and an Orchestra. It has gone through varying degrees of fortune over the years, but is now firmly placed in the Arts and Culture of Bridport.
At the present moment, we sing at a little over 40 members, with a fairly good representation in all four parts, but of course, we are always happy to welcome new singers. We have, at the moment, a policy of no-auditions for those wishing to join, but we do insist on enthusiasm and commitment to the Choir.
We meet on Mondays at 7.30 pm in the Bridport United Church Hall in East Street, commencing, for the Autumn/Winter session in early September and finishing with the Christmas Concert. The Spring session starts in early January and this session ends with the Spring Concert in late May.
We have taken the view, that as there are a number of choirs dedicated solely to Classical music within the area, that we should try to offer more middle of the road music, which is both pleasurable to the audience as well as the choir. Therefore we try to produce concerts to cater for most tastes and our repertoire varies from popular classics, traditional and popular songs, spirituals, songs from the shows and the like.
