New electronic message signs are to be installed on the M5 near Taunton and Tiverton to give drivers more reliable journey times and help to ensure better safety and improved traffic flows.
When completed, the new signs will give drivers real time advance warning of road conditions ahead, including information about accidents, queues, delays and temporary speed limits.
The signs will be installed from June on the M5 at junction 25 and junction 27 north bound. In addition to the signs, the work will require additional infrastructure including roadside equipment cabinets and traffic detector loops buried in the carriageway. In order to carry out the work traffic management will be required, including narrow lane running with a 50mph speed restriction during the first stage of the project. The work is due to be completed in March 2010.
