GALMINGTON AND COMEYTROWE LOCAL ACTION TEAM
THE TRIDENT YOUTH CLUB
Despite the fact that the general activities of GCLAT were suspended a couple of years ago we are pleased to report that two very experienced Youth Workers still run a youth club in the hut at the rear of The Trident Youth and Community Centre in Galmington Road every Tuesday evening between 7.30 pm and 9.30 pm. New members are welcome.
Although the club is run by Youth Workers, the overall management is the responsibility of a very small group of local people and new members of this committee would be welcomed.
Following the withdrawal of funding for many of the youth activities in March 2011 by Somerset County Council we were able to employ directly two Youth Workers because we had received a number of grants over the years which were a direct result of all the hard work generated by Jill Nutton. Jill was responsible for setting up the old Galmington Massive Youth Project but she had to relinquish her involvement with the club towards the end of last year when the new Management Committee was formed. We are delighted to report that there are sufficient monies to keep the club open for the 2012/2013/2014 financial years but a lot of hard will be required if we are to keep funds coming. Apart from applying for grants from various organisations, fund raising events organised by the Youth Workers and the club members will be held in order to try and raise more money so if there is anybody out there willing to help with these activities please contact Valerie Ball on email@example.com.
Responsibility for this project has moved to Taunton Leisure.
