Friday 30th July – “A Night at the Opera”,
The Mayor of Ferndown accepted an invitation to a “A Night at the Opera”, presented by The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals in support of the Mayor of Blandford Forum’s Charities, including ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, Girl Guides and Brownies.

With the help of sponsorship from local garden centres, East Dorset Housing Association (now part of Synergy Housing), with some 3500 households, organises an annual Gardening Competition for residents. Competition is very fierce with a great many entries. The Town Mayor of Ferndown was privileged to be asked to attend the presentation ceremony and to present winning prizes to a number of worthy recipients.
The Town Mayor was very happy to accept a request from the Ferndown Carnival Committee to take part in the opening procession and enjoy the afternoon’s entertainment and activities on King George V Fields after the main procession. The events drew the usual enthusiastic and supportive crowds and with thanks to local businesses for their kind donation of raffle prizes, Cllr Mrs Read, council members and staff, went on during the afternoon to raise nearly £100 for the Mayor’s charity, the Ferndown Stroke Association.

Thursday 8th July – Cherry Tree Nursery Guests’ Open Day, Northbourne
Cherry Tree Nursery is a commercial plant nursery, the first project of the registered charity SWOP (Sheltered Work Opportunities Project), offering people with long-term mental health problems the chance to gain or recover skills, confidence and self-esteem. The Mayor was delighted to be invited to the Nursery’s Open Day, to meet volunteers and staff, view the plants and work undertaken. The day also provided an opportunity to learn more about the Nursery’s biggest challenge to date; a fundraising project to replace their current donated – and now dilapidated - buildings with low-energy, sustainable buildings made from locally sourced materials.

Cllr Mrs Read and her Escort accepted an invitation from the Town Mayor of Portland and Portland Town Council to be part of this annual ceremony which continues a tradition recognising the initial granting of ‘Royal Borough’ by Henry VIII. The ceremony took place at

The Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr Steven Lugg, attended this occasion on behalf of the Mayor. The event, held at Bournemouth FC Stadium, is one of several events planned to celebrate 100 years of guiding. The Deputy Mayor commented that he was proud to be representing Ferndown on this occasion; ‘the organisation was superb, the atmosphere friendly and fun and the girls obviously enjoying themselves!’
Saturday 3rd July 2010 – Official Opening of Cats Protection New Homing Centre, Ferndown .jpg)
On Saturday 3rd July, Cats Protection invited the Town Mayor to take part in the official opening of the new Homing Centre in Ferndown. Work to create the facility was started with an appeal in April 2009; the centre is a totally new initiative for the charity, where only cats ready for adoption will be held. 51 cats had already been found new homes since the centre opened for business in late May and a further 25 were reserved on the day. Approximately 500 people attended and the Mayor was pleased to be invited to officially cut the ribbon and to wish the Centre continued success with their venture. Saturday 3rd July 2010 – Summer Blast Fun Day
Over 2.500 people enjoyed this Fun Day, held at King George V Playing Fields and Ferndown Upper School. The event was the brainchild of two local students and included displays, workshops and demonstrations from clubs and societies across East Dorset. The ‘Skate Fest’ featured demonstrations from Team Extreme and competitions and the Town Mayor presented awards to the youngsters who competed in the BMX and skate challenges.
Wednesday 30th June 2010 – The Charlotte Read Award for Endeavour
The Charlotte Read Award For Endeavor was Awarded by The Mayor of Ferndown Councillor Jean Read to Ferndown Jitsu Club Instructor Katie Dudley at the Heatherlands Community Centre on Wednesday 30 June 2010. The Award was given for her out-standing commitment and all the time and effort that Katie has given to the Ferndown Jitsu Club over the past 10 years and she has always been there to give a helping hand on all occasions and at all events. All students in the club at present started under Katie’s Instruction as a Novice and it is has been with her help that many have progressed to Grade and Rank that they now hold!

The Town Mayor and her escort were invited a Cloggies and Cream Teas Gala at Amberwood House. Entertainment was provided by the ‘Cloggies’ and side stalls were raising funds for the local Red Cross Charity.

The Town Mayor was invited to attend this event and represent the people of Ferndown in a parade along Poole Quay, led by the Poole Sea Cadets Band following a church service.
The Town Mayor was invited to Riffs to view the new computer equipment that had been purchased for use by the Youth Club members. The IT equipment was to be used by the members and was partially funded by Ferndown Town Council.
The the Town Council’s Annual General Meeting held on the 17th May 2010 the first item of business was to elect the Town Mayor for the 2010/2011 municipal year. It was unanimously agreed by all present that the Mayor would be Councillor Mrs
