TALATON PARISH COUNCIL EXCELS AGAIN !

Talaton Parish Council has been re awarded its Quality Status. A huge amount of work went into achieving this and it just goes to show that the work of your Parish Council has been recognised as exemplory. It means that its affairs are in order, its finances are sound and that it is run in accordance with all the rules. So, the PC is well recognised by the external bodies and it is working constantly for the benefit of the Parish. Please use your Council, come along and have a say at its monthly meetings - or drop in at its surgery in the Parish Hall. (There's one coming up shortly - details in the calendar and on the site. It's here to serve you so please use it.

The Village

Church Village shop Talaton inn

This ancient rural village, with a population of about 500 and mentioned in the Doomsday Book, nestles close to the tiny river Tale (town- on- the- Tale). It lies about seven miles from the market town of Honiton, four miles from Ottery St Mary, twelve miles from the Cathedral City of Exeter and  eight miles from Cullompton, another ancient market town.  It remains largely a working country village surrounded by actively worked farmland but it is fortunate that over a number of years the population has slowly increased and with it many changes have been embraced allowing Talaton to offer both the old and new ideals.

Village life often revolves around a Church, or a Shop or an Inn –Talaton has all three!  Each of these is very active and well supported and reports regularly in the excellent Talaton Calendar, a monthly free publication of articles and reports of interest. Numerous other societies and groups flourish within the village and information on these may be found on this site.

The annual Village Day has its origin many many years ago but it survives and attracts visitors from near and far. Similarly, an annual Christmas pantomime has become a regular feature over the years and is another example of an active and vibrant village.

The Parish Council actively monitors development within the village and mostly it has been successful in working with the local planning authorities to retain a charming village atmosphere. A very professional Village Plan has been produced detailing the ideals of the village community as expressed in a comprehensive survey.  (see above for a link to the Plan)

Hopefully this site will be informative and fun for residents and visitors alike but at the end of the day it belongs to the village and can help record all facets of village life, but also be a means of allowing active communication between groups and individuals – a sure way of safeguarding the future of a wonderful Devon village.

Enjoy the site and don’t be afraid to comment on it or contribute to it by emailing to chrisharwood44@hotmail.com or talatonpc@btinternet.com (for Parish Council matters)
